A tragic accident.
Chuck “Zac” Zachrich is long time Colorado hockey player and an all around great guy. This past July, Zac suffered a severe head injury when as a result of bicycle accident in Castle Rock. Zac was airlifted to Sky Ridge Hospital where he remained there in ICU for five days with a fractured skull, severe concussion and badly damaged right thumb.

A collision on the ice…
On the night of April 2nd, 2018 Bryan Brock, an amazing father, husband, and friend, was involved in an accidental collision on the ice during an adult hockey game where he suffered a dissection of his right carotid artery. As a result of the injury he suffered blood clotting which led to him having a stroke and loss of movement in the left side of his body.

While vacationing in Australia with his family for a holiday, Rob experienced a medical emergency where he was hospitalized and on a ventilator. Roberts emergency was not covered by insurance because he was out of the country. There were transportation costs plus medical costs and it will be some time before Robert will be back to his previous level of performance as a surgeon.

Deputy Gumm was killed in the line of duty on January 24, 2018. While responding to a crime in progress, Deputy Gumm followed a suspect behind a house. It was terrific evening at Centre Ice Hockey as our latest recipient, Taylor Erickson, was recognized. Taylor continues to make tremendous strides after suffering a fractured skull in December.
There’s still a long road ahead, but Taylor’s progress has exceeded everyone’s expectations so far. His goal is to be back on the ice in 2019 and nobody is counting him…

The evening this check was presented was a very special one as it went to Jonathan “Rips” Ripley, a long time DAWG with a heart of gold. This past July, Jen Johnson and her partner Sarah, received the devastating news that their two year old son, Porter, was diagnosed with leukemia. It’s been difficult journey but one they have taken on with grace and courage.

Adam is a local hockey official who suffered traumatic leg injury during the Memorial Day weekend while wake boarding. His future of being able to return to sports, let alone hockey is very uncertain. Adam, who is married and has three children, received his much appreciated check for $10,200 at the Av’s 5K event.
